About College Library

Dr. S.Rangnathan, the father of library world in India has given the five laws of library science. We have three main sections in our library:

Our college library is one of the famous and richest libraries of the region having a collection of rare books. The former principal’s Prof Pushkar Chandarvakar, Shri D.D.Desai, Dr. Kanti Rami were well known literary scholars. They have enriched the library by their scholarly insight. The library contains 18,352 books and reference books on various subjects. Many scholars and researchers of North Gujarat have been benefitted by our library. The institution has a transparent method for purchasing books for the library. Out of the total grant received by the college, specific amount is allotted to all the departments in proportion to the number of students in the department. The Principal holds a meeting of all the HoDs and discusses their requirements regarding the books and journals related to their subjects. The faculty members visit the bookstores at Ahmedabad and choose books for the college library. The faculties of the college often places order on e-stores to procure the specific books that are not readily available in the market.

Our permanent librarian Shri R.V.Patel retired in 2007. After his retirement the senior clerk of the library managed to run it. Then the senior clerk retired in 2009 and on the request of management, she continued her services after retirement for three years. But when she left the institution, the management appointed Shri Jignesh Mehta for the library. Jr. Clerk of the library is also going to retire on 14th June 2013. Thus, the lack of a well-qualified and permanent librarian in the library, some services of the library suffers. However, the management and principal are trying their level best to manage the smooth administration of the library.

The institution has a good collection of books, reference books, magazines, journals in the library. The library is well managed. Books are classified properly. So it is very easy for a researcher to find them for research purposes. The library remains open during the college hours and it may be kept open on the request of a researcher. The computer, internet and infrastructural facilities are also made available to the researchers as per their demand. Our library is situated on the ground floor. The visually and physically challenged persons have an easy access to library. Such students are given priority in issuing books. Moreover, they are also helped by the library staff. The staff in the library help them to find out the classification catalogue, to fill up the demand slip and thus to access the book they need.

At present, Mrs. Dina Patel is working as a Part-time librarian and manages the various facilities of library like study center, research and book bank.
