Gujarati is one of among three main subjects of the Arts Faculty since the establishment of the college. Gujarati is the mother tongue of the people of Gujarat. Gujarati language is not only important but also is indispensable to understand the culture and history of Gujarat. Gujarati has been accepted as a main subject to make students aware of the better skill of reading writings and interpreting. Gujarati as a mother tongue of the students, the mother tongue attracts the students to offer as main subject.
Shri Puskar Chandrarvakar, the well-known author was appointed as a professor of Gujarati at the beginning of the college. He had research and published more than 35 books of folk-literature. He joined other college for better career after services of one year. Thereafter, Shri Manibhai Patel joined as a lecturer of Gujarati. He was an honest lecturer & the chairman of the Market Committee of Unjha also.
Prof. Jyotsanaben Gandhi joined the Gujarati department in year 1971, while Prof. R.K.Dave and Prof. D.T.Mehta in the years 1972 and 1974 respectively. There was a good progress of Gujarati department during their tenure. The learned Professor of Gujarati, Dr. Kanti Rami was appointed as the principal of the college in the year 1992. He was a noble man and efficient organizer. He gave importance to other co-curricular activities along with the education.
Therefore, Gujarati subject became more acceptable subject during his tenure. Prof. Amrutbhai Patel was appointed as a lecturer of Gujarati in the year 1991. Later he was appointed as the Principal at Arts College, Palasar. He has published 12 books on folk-literature.
The post graduate centre of Gujarati was started in this college with a view of facilitate higher education to graduate student with the permission of North Gujarat University in the year 1992.
Prof. Premilaben Patel and Prof. Amrutbhai Jadav joined the department in the year 1992 and 1993 respectively. Dr. Kanti Rami retired due to the age limit in the year 1996 and Prof. R.K.Dave was appointed as the Principal. Prof. R.K.Dave retired in the year 2001, willingly. Prof. D.T.Mehta retired due to age limit in the year 2003. After the retirement of Prof D.T.Mehta a post of a Professor remained vacant for 11 years. Because of it, Unjha Education Board took care of the education of students by appointing a visiting lecturer and bore the expenses. In the year 2014, Prof. Bhumikaben Mistry appointed as the assistant professor and thus it became a three faculty department. The faculty of the department always keeps themselves update for better future of the students by educational and co-curricular activities.
