Department of English

Introduction
The department of English was established in 1974 with no more than 10 students. In the beginning students were reluctant to take English as their main subject due to psychological fear of a foreign language. But slowly and gradually, the scenario changed when the study of English language was recognized as a means to the advancement of the career.

Late principal Prof. K.S.Yadav introduced English in the faculty of arts as one of the main subjects and provided a wider choice to the students. Another scholarly principal, Late Prof. D. D. Desai popularized it with his dedication, scholarship and sincerity. The department was also enriched by the services of a few another teachers like Prof. A. P. Patel, Prof. A. P. Prajapai, Prof. Devashri, Prof. I. D. Desai and Prof. G. T. Parsania. Their contribution to the progress of the department was indispensable.

The present staff of department consists of five members. Prin. Dr. R. G. Rao himself belongs to the department of English. He is a good teacher and equally a good administrator. All other faculty members of the department are competent, well experienced and well qualified. Out of 5 faculty members, 4 are Ph.D. holders and rest one is also pursuing Ph.D. The members of the department perform teaching and co-curricular activities task as assigned to them from time to time.

The department started its P.G. Centre in 1982, with only 10 students. At present there are more than 150 students, pursuing their post-graduation education in the department. The department also started Digital English Language Lab (DELL) in 2008 with the financial aid of Govt. of Gujarat where students are trained in English language communication skill.

Moreover, the former HOD Mr. G. T. Parsania represented the college before NAAC committee in 2006, where the college received B+ grade. In 2013 again the HOD Dr. Manisha Shah coordinated the college and the college received 2.75 GPA (B++) in its reaccreditation. Thus, the department of English constantly enriches and contributed to the development of the institute. In the beginning of the year 2019, Dr. Iliyas Mansuri took charge as the Head of the Department and Prof. Tejas Shah is a senior professor.

In the year 2014, two vacant posts were finally filled by the Government of Gujarat and two Assistant Professors, Dr. Mahesh Jani and Dr. Priti Patel joined the department. Dr. Mahesh Jani is also working as a coordinator of IQAC, while Dr.Priti Patel is currently conducts the DELL lab and Finishing School Project.
